Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Compared to two weeks ago: Slaughter steers 8.00 to 9.00 higher, heifers 9.00 to 11.00 higher. Holsteins 3.00 to 4.00 higher. Demand for this nice offering of slaughter cattle was good. Most cattle hauled in over night, making weighing conditions good for the buyer. Black hided cattle continue to be in the biggest demand. United States Ag Price Report showed that cattle price in October up 16% from last year. Estimated dressed cost 218.00 - 224.00. CME Live Cattle closed higher as well as corn. Slaughter cows steady. Slaughter Bulls steady. Traditional Slaughter weight lambs steady to 3.00 higher. Ewes steady to 2.00 except Good 2-3 8.00 to 10.00 higher. Demand for this large offering of sheep and goats was good.
