Privacy Policy for Cattle Market Pulse
Effective date: May 30, 2026
Cattle Market Pulse ("the app," "we," "us") is built by [DEVELOPER NAME]. This policy covers both the iOS app and our website (cattlemarketpulse.com). It explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We've kept it short and specific to what the app and site actually do.
The short version
- No account, no login. You don't give us your name, email, or phone number — the one exception is the website's optional launch-notification waitlist, where you choose to give us an email address (details below).
- No ads. No tracking. No data brokers. We don't use any advertising or third-party analytics/tracking SDKs, and we never sell or rent your data.
- We store only what's needed to make the app work for you — your favorites, your herd entries, and (if you opt in) notification preferences — tied to a random, anonymous device identifier.
What we collect
An anonymous device ID. The first time you open the app, it generates a random identifier (a UUID) stored securely in your device's Keychain. It is not tied to your Apple ID, your phone number, advertising identifiers (IDFA), or any other personal information. We use it only to keep your data (below) separate from other devices'. It's sent only to our own servers, as part of normal app requests.
Information you create in the app, stored on our servers and linked to your device ID:
- Favorite markets and futures — which markets/contracts you've starred.
- Your herd — entries you add to the gestation tracker: an optional label (e.g., an ear-tag number), a breeding date, and any notes you type. This is information you choose to enter; please don't include anything sensitive in the free-text fields.
- Notification preferences — if you opt in to Cattle-on-Feed report alerts, we store the device push token Apple issues so we can deliver those notifications.
Basic usage analytics (first-party). To understand which features are useful (for example, engagement with the boxed-beef detail screens), the app records simple events — an event name, a timestamp, and your anonymous device ID — on our own servers. This is in-house only; it is not shared with any analytics company.
The website and the launch waitlist
Our website (cattlemarketpulse.com) publishes USDA market reports. Reading it requires nothing from you: no account, no cookies, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. Standard network metadata (such as IP addresses) is handled transiently by hosting infrastructure to route and rate-limit requests, as with any website.
If you join the launch waitlist ("Get notified when the app launches"), we store exactly three things: the email address you enter, which page of the site you signed up from, and a one-way hash of your browser's user-agent string (used only to spot bot signups — the raw value is never stored). We do not store your IP address with your signup.
We use the waitlist for one purpose: to send a single notification when the app launches. It is never sold, shared, or used for a newsletter. Signing up twice has no effect (duplicates are ignored). To be removed at any time, email us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will delete your address.
Device permissions
The app asks for these only when you use the related feature, and you can decline or change them anytime in iOS Settings:
- Location (while using the app). Used to show which auctions are near you and how far away they are. On the map screen, your location is used only on your device. When you choose the "Near Me" filter for auction notes, your approximate coordinates are sent to our servers with that request so we can sort results by distance — they are used only to answer that request and are not stored or linked to your device ID. We never share your location with third parties.
- Calendar. Used only to add expected calving dates and night-check reminders to your calendar when you ask. We don't read or collect your calendar.
- Photos. Used only to save a calculator result image to your photo library when you tap Share. We don't read or collect your photos.
How we use your information
We use the information above solely to: provide and operate the app's features (favorites, herd tracking, calculators, notifications), keep your data associated with your device, deliver notifications you opt into, and improve the app through the first-party usage analytics described above. We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
- We do not use advertising SDKs, ad identifiers, or cross-app/cross-site tracking.
- We do not use third-party analytics services.
- We do not collect your name, password, or payment information, and — outside the optional website waitlist email described above — we do not collect your email address either (the app has no accounts and no in-app purchases that require them).
How information is shared
We don't share your information with third parties for their own purposes. Limited, necessary sharing happens only here:
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs). If you opt into notifications, Apple delivers them using the push token described above.
- Our hosting provider (Fly.io). Our servers and database run on Fly.io, which processes data on our behalf to operate the service. Standard network metadata (such as IP addresses) may be handled transiently by hosting infrastructure to route requests; the app itself does not log or store your IP address.
- Market-data sources. The app shows public market data (e.g., USDA reports, futures and cash prices). We fetch this data from those sources into our own systems — we do not send any of your information to them.
- Legal. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users or the public.
Data retention and your choices
- You can remove favorites and delete herd entries directly in the app at any time.
- You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings; you may also contact us to remove your stored push token.
- Because your data is keyed to an anonymous device ID (and that ID persists in the Keychain even if you delete and reinstall the app), to permanently delete all data associated with your device, email us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will delete it. We retain data only as long as needed to provide the app or as required by law.
Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Our database runs on a private network, and we keep regular backups so your data isn't lost. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
Cattle Market Pulse is intended for a general, professional audience (cattle producers and market followers) and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and post the revised version at this URL. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
