Compared to last week Feeder Steers 350 to 400 10.00 to 12.00 lower, 400 to 450 6.00 to 8.00 lower, 450 to 550 5.00 to 7.00 lower, 550 to 600 Steady to 2.00 higher, 600 to 700 4.00 to 6.00 lower, Feeder Heifers 350 to 400 4.00 to 6.00 lower, 400 to 450 2.00 to 4.00 lower, 450 to 500 8.00 to 10.00 lower, 500 to 550 10.00 to 12.00 lower, 550 to 650 7.00 to 9.00 lower. Very Good Demand for several long Strings and Many Load Lots and Packages of Feeder Steers and Feeder Heifers which sold on a Moderate to Active Market. Nearly the entire Supply consisted of Home Raised Calves, off the cow, with Spring and Fall vaccinations, carrying Light to Moderate Flesh. The Feeder Cattle Futures closed sharply lower today which reflected in a Slower Market in the last half of today's sale. The Next Feeder Cattle Sale is November 14, Expecting 5,000 head.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
