Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Sale not recently reported due to Seasonally low Receipts, therefore no market comparison may be made. Good Demand in the seats and moderate demand on the Internet for Several Load Lots and Packages of Spring Calves and Several Part Loads and Packages of Feeder Steers and Tested Open Heifers which sold on a Moderate to Active Market. Nearly all the Yearling Heifers were tested open off the keepers, had an attractive presentation, were off grass, and carried Light to Moderate Flesh. The Spring Calves in the Offering are about a month earlier than normal due to dry conditions in some of the surrounding areas. Despite the dry conditions the Spring Calves were healthy, shiny, fully vaccinated, and carried a very favorable weigh-up. The Next Sale is September 15, Yearling and Spring Calf Special; 300 Yearlings and 600 Spring Calves are on the books with more expected by Sale Day. Happy Labor Day!
