Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

No sale last week due to Thanksgiving, compared to two weeks ago: best test on yearling steers 900 to 1000 lbs mostly steady, best test on steer calves 500 to 600 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Yearling heifers not well tested today, best test on heifer calves 400 to 450 lbs 10.00 to 15.00 higher, 500 to 550 lbs 6.00 to 7.00 higher. Good to very good demand for a long string and several loads of attractive yearling steers included in today's offering. Flesh on these steers light to moderate plus. Good to very good demand for today's large calf offering. Many packages and loads of attractive quality calves offered, the majority off the cow with a full round of fall shots. Flesh varied, from light to moderate plus. An active market with many buyers and farmer feeders in the seats today. The area is experiencing above normal temps and dry conditions for this time of year, these conditions are very good for feeding cattle and helping the calves maintain their bloomy look. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, December 11.
