Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Compared to last weeks sale; Steer calves 300-400 lbs were steady to 3.00 lower and 400-600 lbs sold 5.00-18.00 higher. Feeder steers 600-650 lbs were 4.00 higher while 650-800 lbs sold 2.00-7.00 lower. Heifer calves 300-400 lbs were steady-15.00 higher and 400-450 lbs sold 9.00 higher while 450-600 lbs were 2.00-3.00 lower. Feeder heifers 600-750 lbs sold 3.00-9.00 lower with the exception of 650 700 lbs being 6.00 higher. Trade was moderate to slow with light demand on smaller numbers. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 higher instances 7.00 lower and slaughter bulls were steady to 1.00 lower. Market was unsteady with excellent buyer attendance.
