Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Compared to last week; Steer calves 300-350 lbs were 12.00 higher. 400-500 lbs sold sharply higher while 500-600 lbs were 5.00-6.00 lower. Heifer calves 300-400 lbs were 15.00 higher400-450 lbs sold 14.00 higher. 450-500 lbs sold sharply higher and 500-550 lbs were 8.00 higher while 550 600 lbs were 5.00 lower. Feeder steers 600-700 lbs sold 5.00-11.00 lower and 750-800 lbs were 11.00 lower. Steers 850-900 lbs were 20.00 higher. Feeder heifers 600-800 lbs sold 7.00-10.00 lower while 800-850 lbs were 16.00 higher.Slaughter cows were steady to 4.00 higher and slaughter bulls sold steady to 1.00 higher. Trade was very active with good numbers still coming off wheat. Demand was strong with excellent buyer attendance.
