Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Compared to last week, steer calves 350-400 lbs were 8.00 higher; 400-450 lbs sold 14.00 higher. Steer calves 450-500 lbs were 2.00 lower while 500-600 lbs were steady. Heifer calves under 400 lbs were 5.00 higher; 400-450 lbs sold 9.00 lower. Heifer calves 450-500 lbs were 10.00 lower and 500 -550 lbs sold steady. 550-600 lbs were 3.00 higher. Feeder steers 600-650 lbs were steady; 650-700 lbs sold 4.00 higher while 750-850 lbs sold 2.00-5.00 higher. Feeder heifers 600-650 lbs were 11.00 lower and 650-700 lbs sold 2.00 lower. Feeder heifers 700-750 lbs were 8.00 higher. Slaughter cows were 2.00-7.00 higher and slaughter bulls sold 4.00-7.00 higher. Trade was moderate to active while demand was moderate to active also. Large numbers of bred cows and pairs led to excellent buyer attendance.
