*** Note *** Next Thursday November 7th, Pratt will have a special calf sale. 1,000 consigned with more coming *** *** Final Report *** Compared to last week, feeder steers 475 lb to 950 lb sold 6.00 to 9.00 higher, in places 15.00 higher. Feeder heifers 450 lb to 975 lb sold 6.00 to 9.00 higher on light receipts. Steer and heifer calves 400 lb to 500 lb sold up to 20.00 higher on very light receipts. Demand was good. Slaughter cows sold 6.00 to 8.00 lower, however 1 high yielding cow sold for 133. Slaughter bulls sold 6.00 to 8.00 lower, however 1 high yielding bull sold for 167.50 An outstanding offering of bred cows and heifers sold from 2600 to 3250

Reading this report

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
