*** Note *** Next Wednesday October 31, Pratt will have a complete herd dispersal for Morningstar Farms 200 Bred heifers and 600 Bred cows *** *** Final Report *** Compared to last week, feeder steers 500 lb to 950 lb sold 3.00 to 6.00 higher with front end kind selling up to 12.00 higher. Feeder heifers 500 lb to 800 lb sold 3.00 to 6.00 higher, in places 11.00 higher. An outstanding offering of local calves 300 lb to 500 lb selling up to 20.00 higher. Demand was good with good buyer attendance. Slaughter cows sold 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold steady.

Reading this report

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
