Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week: Slaughter steers Choice 2-3 1.00 to 3.00 higher, Choice 3-4 1.00 to 2.00 lower and heifers 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Holstein steers compared to two weeks ago steady to 1.00 higher. Demand for this nice offering was good. Black cattle are in biggest demand creating wide price ranges. Small premium seen for program cattle. Several 1600 lb steers offered today. Estimated dressed cost 204.00 to 209.00. CME Live Cattle down while corn took a big jump higher. Slaughter cows steady. Bulls to few to make a meaningful comparison. Traditional weight slaughter lambs steady to 1.00 higher. Demand for this large offering of sheep was good. Slaughter ewes steady to 4.00 higher.
