Anniversary Special BBQ Feeder Cattle Sale! Compared to the sale last week: Limited number of light steers both weeks. No comparison. Steers 850 lbs 4.00-8.00 lower, 900 lbs 2.00-5.00 higher, 950 lbs 4.00 higher with big consignment bringing 11.00 higher. Heifers 750 lbs 4.00 higher, 800 lbs steady to 1.00 higher, 850 lbs 5.00-7.00 higher, 950 lbs 2.00-4.00 higher. Most of the sale consisted of load lots and half loads. A majority of those consignments being yearling cattle. Several smaller strings of mostly light heifers in the offering also. Big crowd in the arena today. Good demand throughout the sale, especially on the load lots. Slaughter cows: Breaker and Boner cows steady. Lean cows steady to 2.00 higher. Too light a test on bulls today. No comparison.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
