Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to 4.00 higher, except 350 lbs - 400 lbs, 450 lbs - 550 lbs, 650 lbs - 700 lbs 4.00 to 9.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 4.00 lower, except 400 lbs - 450lbs, 550 lbs - 600 lbs 8.00 to 10.00 higher, 650 lbs - 700 lbs, 800 lbs - 850 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Demand for this large offering of green cattle was good. Biggest demand continues to be for black hided cattle. Several large lots sold today. CME Feeder Cattle closed lower while corn jumped higher. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter bulls 3.00 to 4.00 lower.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
