Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Compared to last week sale, steer calves 300-400 lbs were sharply higher and 400-600 lbs sold 13.00-17.00 higher. Feeder steers 600-700 lbs sold 11.00-23.00 higher. Heifer calves 300-450 lbs were 17.00-21.00 higher, instances sharply higher, and 450-500 lbs sold 2.00 lower while 500-600 lbs were 14.00-32.00 higher. Feeder heifers 600-700 lbs sold 3.00-6.00 higher. Trade was active on a moderately higher market with good demand on larger numbers. Slaughter cows were steady to 7.00 higher while slaughter bulls sold steady to 5.00 lower. Weaned and started vaccination programs are being rewarded. Evcellent buyer attendance
