Compared to last week Feeder Steers 400 to 450 8.00 to 10.00 higher, 450 to 500 Steady, 500 to 550 8.00 higher, 550 to 600 Steady, 600 to 650 10.00 higher, 650 to 700 Steady to 3.00 higher, Feeder Heifers under 400 Steady, 400 to 500 3.00 to 5.00 higher, 500 to 600 6.00 to 8.00 higher. Very Good Demand for several Long Strings, Load Lots, and Many Packages of Feeder Steers and Feeder Heifers which sold on a Strong, Active Market. Much of the Offering was weaned for at least 45 days with Spring and Fall vaccinations. This was the final Feeder Cattle Sale of 2021, the Next Feeder Cattle Sale is January 11. USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
