Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

No Feeder Cattle Sale last week, comparisons made to two weeks ago. Feeder Steers under 400 15.00 to 20.00 higher, 400 to 550 10.00 to 15.00 higher, 550 to 600 5.00 to 7.00 higher, 600 to 700 2.00 to 4.00 higher, 700 to 800 Steady, Feeder Heifers under 550 5.00 to 10.00 higher, 550 to 700 Steady 700 to 750 3.00 higher. Very Good Demand for Several Long Strings, Load Lots, and Many Packages of Feeder Steers and Feeder Heifers which sold on a Very Strong, Active Market throughout the sale. The Supply was a mix of Weaned Calves and Calves coming straight off the cow yet all carried light to Moderate Flesh and were fully vaccinated. This was the Final Feeder Cattle Sale of 2020, Next Feeder Cattle Sale January 12, 2021. Have a Merry Christmas and a Very Prosperous New Year!
