Compared to last week Feeder Steers under 450 Steady to 3.00 higher, 450 to 550 Steady, 550 to 600 Steady to 2.00 higher, 600 to 700 Steady to 2.00 lower, Feeder Heifers 350 to 400 Steady, 400 to 450 3.00 lower, 450 to 550 Steady to 2.00 higher, 550 to 700 Steady to 2.00 lower. Good Demand for Several Long Strings, Load Lots, and Many Packages of Feeder Steers and Feeder Heifers which sold on a Moderate to Active Market. Nearly all of the Supply was home raised, fully vaccinated, straight off the cow, and carried light to moderate flesh. November 24 is a Bred Cow Sale, the Next Feeder Cattle Sale is December 1, Weaned Calf Special, Expecting 4,000 Head. What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
