Compared to last week Feeder Steers 400 to 550 3.00 to 4.00 higher, 550 to 600 5.00 to 6.00 higher, 600 to 650 1.00 to 2.00 higher, 650 to 700 6.00 higher, Feeder Heifers 400 to 500 5.00 to 7.00 higher, 500 to 550 10.00 to 12.00 higher, 550 to 600 6.00 to 8.00 higher, 600 to 650 4.00 to 6.00 higher. Very Good Demand for Many Long Strings, Load Lots, and Many Packages of Feeder Steers, Feeder Heifers, and Replacement Heifers which all sold on a Very Strong, Active Market. Nearly all of the Offering was Home Raised, fully vaccinated, straight off the cow, and carried light to moderate flesh with favorable weighing conditions. The Next Sale is November 4: Weighup Cow Special; November 7: Bred Cow Special, expecting 2,100 Head; November 10: Spring Calf Special, expecting 11,000 Head.
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
