What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
Where do these numbers come from?
From the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock Market News —
federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the
official USDA document at the top of the page.

Compared to last week light weight steers under 600 lbs sold 9.00 to 10.00 lower, flat 6 weight steers sold steady, over 700 lbs sold 3.00 lower. Heifers under 700 lbs sold 7.00 lower, over 700 lbs sold mostly 3.00 lower. Demand was moderate to good for the heavy supply on offer. Quite a few, light fleshed cattle of all weights on offer. Ranchers continue to seek out reputation or top-quality heifers to breed for replacement heifers. Few, dispersals and herd reductions of Sandhills cows on hand and buyers sought these top genetics to add to their own herds. Light rain changing to snow at the close of the weekend. Not a lot of moisture was noted but something is better than nothing. Hopefully Mother Nature will continue to provide much needed moisture across the state. Nebraska feedlot sales sold 2.00 to 4.00 on live sales at mostly 140.00 and dressed sales traded 2.00 to 3.00 lower from 224.00 to 225.00.
