Compared to last week: Feeder steers 350-400lbs, 600-650lbs and 850-900lbs 4.00 lower with instances up to 11.00 lower, 500-600lbs, 650-750lbs and 800-850lbs 1.00 to 5.00 higher with instances up to 7.00 higher. Feeder heifers 400-450lbs and 600-650lbs 16.00 to 19.00 higher, 450-500lbs, 550-600lbs , 700-750lbs steady to 5.00 higher with instances up to 9.00 higher , 650-700lbs up to 9.00 lower. Good buyer demand. Smaller sale due to cold temperatures. Flesh condition light to moderate.

Reading this report

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
