Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week; Feeder steers 450-500lbs, 650-700lbs and 850-900lbs 7.00 to 11.00 lower with instances up to 13.00 lower, 500-550lbs and 700-750lbs steady to 1.00 lower, 550-650lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher and 750-800lbs sharply lower. Feeder heifers 400-450lbs and 500-600lbs 3.00 to 7.00 higher, 450-500lbs, 600-650lbs and 700-750lbs 1.00 to 4.00 lower with instances up to 8.00 lower, 650-700lbs trading up to 19.00 higher. Good buyer demand with many full loads of steers and heifers in today's offering. Flesh condition light to moderate.
