Compared to the last special three weeks ago, Lolli Livestock moved their sale to Wednesday due to the winter snow storm over the weekend, a light test of steer calves under 550 llbs sold with a higher undertone with 550-650 lb steers selling 10.00-20.00, spots 23 .00 higher, with 650-700 lbs trading fully steady to firm and 700-750 lbs trading 5.00-10.00 higher and over 750 lbs sold with a higher undertone. Feeder heifers weighing 450-600 lbs sold 8.00-15.00 higher, with 600-650 lbs trading with a higher undertone, 650-750 lbs sold 5.00-12.00 higher and a pot load weighing 762 lbs sold 4.00 higher than pot load off the same consignment three weeks ago. Market started the New Year off in good fashion as over all quality ran deep on calves and yearlings with bulk of the offering having good weighing conditions coming out off the winter storm as buyers were eager to own feeders on a very active market. Several stick out sales included several groups (20 head plus) of 700-730 lb steers selling from 295.00-303.50, pot load 860 lb steers at 272.25, two pot loads of heifers weighing 727-729 at 272.25-274.85 and two groups of replacement heifers weighing 760-762s at 276.00-284.50. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm on a light test.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Where do these numbers come from?

From the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock Market News — federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the official USDA document at the top of the page.
