Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steers calves under 500 lbs sold with a higher undertone on a light test, with 500-550 lbs selling 10.00-13.00 higher and a pot load of 875 lb steers off the same consignment from two weeks ago trading steady. Feeder heifer offering was centered around six pot loads and three part loads of top quality 630-715 lb heifers with good weighing conditions that sold with a sharply higher undertone on very good demand, with 450-550 lb heifers trading with a firm to higher undertone on a light test. Stick out sales included the pot loads of heifers with a pot load weighing 629 lbs at 287.85, 2 pot loads and a part load weighing 670-685 lbs at 276.75-279.75, two pot loads weighing 712 lbs at 266.25 and a pot load of steers weighing 875 lbs at 255.85. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady on a light offering.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
