Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves weighing 400-500 lbs and 550-600 lbs sold 5.00-10.00 higher, with 500-550 bs selling 3.00-5.00 higher, 600-650 lb steers were lightly tested, with 650-700 lbs selling steady to firm, 700-750 lb sold 2.00-3.00 higher over 750 lbs were lightly tested. Feeder heifers weighing 450-500 lbs sold 3.00-5.00 higher, with 500-600 lbs selling 5.00-7.00 higher and 600-650 lbs trading firm to 2.00 higher and 650-700 lbs sold with a higher undertone on few comparisons. Some exceptionally strong prices for steers calves weighing 400-600 lbs as quality was very good with overall a very active market on yearlings offered with five pot loads of 6 weight heifers and heifer calves weighing 450-600 lbs all sold with good demand with supply moderate.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
