Compared to the last feeder special two weeks ago, 4 weight steer calves sold 5.00-10.00 higher, with 500-700 lb steers trading mostly 3.00-5.00 higher, spots 7.00 higher on the 650-700 lb steers and a pot load of yearling steers weighing 880 lbs sold with a higher undertone. Feeder heifers sold with a higher undertone on weights from 450-700 lbs with limited comparisons from two weeks ago. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm. A good quality offering of steer calves, and 6 weight heifers with couple of lots selling as replacements along with the pot load of yearling steers all sold on a active market with good demand. Ag commodities continued to sell-off on Tuesday with Live cattle futures again seeing losses, with feeders mixed and corn trading mostly 14 cents lower with soybeans 24-25 cents lower.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
