Compared to the last auction two weeks ago, 450-500 lb steer calves sold steady to 4.00 higher, 500-550 lbs sold 7.00-10.00 higher on a light test, 550-600 lbs and 650-700 lb traded steady to firm with 600-650 lb and 700-750 lbs selling firm to 5.00 higher. Feeder heifers weighing 400-500 lbs sold steady to firm, with 500-550 lbs trading 5.00-10.00 higher, 550-650 lbs selling steady, 650-700 lbs sold 3.00-6.00 higher and over 700 lbs traded mostly steady. A nice offering of three pot loads of yearling heifers weighing 650-705 lbs and steers weighing 600-750 lbs all sold with good demand on and active market. CME cattle futures have scaled back since last Friday and corn futures on Tuesday had a big up day, but feeder cattle prices continue to see and active market.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
