Compared to the last auction two weeks ago, steer calves weighing 400-600 lbs sold fully steady to firm on comparable sales, with 600-800 lbs trading mostly 5.00-800 higher, spots 10.00 higher. Feeder heifers sold mostly 3.00-8.00 higher. Demand was very good on a moderate offering. A top quality offering of feeders weighing 500-750 lbs sold on a very active market with the best demand on the 550-750 lb steers and heifers weighing 400-500 lbs going to grass and 600-725 lb heifers. Slaughter cows traded steady to 3.00 higher on a light offering.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
