Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week feeder steers 450 to 550 lbs. were 5.00 to 6.00 higher and 550 to 700 lbs. were steady to 1.00 higher. Feeder heifers 450 to 500 lbs. were 13.00 higher and the 500 to 650 lbs. were steady to 5.00 higher this week. The area is still recovering from the storm last week and icy and snow covered roads are a problem for movement of calves from the sales in this area. More buyers in attendance today and they were actively bidding for todays offering. Many nice strings and load lots of calves today and more weaned calves showing up this week. Most buyers looking for calves that are weaned and have shots. Most feeders were in light to moderate flesh condition. No feeder sale next Wednesday due a scheduled bred cow sale. The next scheduled feeder sale will be on Saturday November 26th.
