**Correction: 88lb replacement cow deleted** Lighter run today compared to last week by similar proportions to the week previous as the total run decreased by nigh 200 head, mostly Feeders with a slightly lower number of Replacement Cattle as well. Buyer attendance was essentially unchanged, moderate, but pursued trade steadily throughout the sale. Trends shifts were fairly small as well, the few swings keeping flat for both Feeders and Slaughter Cattle. Feeder Steers sold $1-$10 per cwt higher on the lighter 2/3s of the run while demand lowered by almost the same amount on the heavier 1/3. Heifers took on more of a bell curve with the lighter and heavier end $4-$7 lower and the mid weight breaks higher by $8 per cwt. Feeder Bulls steady on the light end, lowering by $12 per cwt moving into the 5 weights, then tapering off to $2 lower in the 6 weights. The seller today should note the spread between Value Added and their comparable weights, $5-$20 higher for quality Feeders in desirable flesh, with a guaranteed health program, and a long weaning period. Replacement Cattle offering slightly lower this week but following closely with last week in both type and demand. Moving onto Slaughter Cattle there was a small rally from the lowering demand of the last 2 weeks with Cows selling slightly higher by $1.25 to $3 per cwt, and demand for higher dressing types pushing higher yet. Bulls, having held steady the last 3 weeks, turned around as well selling $9 per cwt higher for average dressing types. Baby Calves sold $125-$275 per head, Heiferettes, $99-$110 per cwt. Slaughter hogs from $59-$70 per cwt, Shoats up to $35 by the head. ***Feeder Calf Special next Saturday***

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Where do these numbers come from?

From the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock Market News — federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the official USDA document at the top of the page.
