Compared to last week, feeder steers 900 lb to 1025 lb sold 10.00 to 12.00 higher. An outstanding offering of approximately 750 fancy thin steers weighing 900 lb. to 1025 lb. Feeder steers 600 lb to 800 lb sold unevenly steady. Feeder heifers 600 lb to 925 lb sold steady to 3.00 lower. Thin fleshed heifers sold steady. Steer and heifer calves 400 lb to 600 lb sold 10.00 to 20.00 higher. Demand was good on all classes of calves. Slaughter cows and bulls sold 8.00 to 10.00 lower, however 2 high yielding bullls sold for 158
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
