*** Final Report *** *** Note *** Next Wednesday October 12, Winter Livestock in Dodge City will have a Special Calf Sale *** Compared to last week, not enough feeder steers 700 lb to 950 lb for a market test, however a lower trend was noted. Three part loads of fancy steers sold 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Steers 550 lb to 700 lb sold steady to 4.00 higher. Not enough steer calves 400 lb to 550 lb for a market test, however a lower trend was noted. Not enough heifers 600 lb to 800 lb for a market test, however a higher trend was noted. Not enough heifer calves 400 lb to 600 lb for a market test, however a lower trend was noted. Demand was moderate. Slaughter cows sold 7.00 to 9.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold steady.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
