Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

*** Final Report *** Compared to last week, no recent comparison on feeder steers under 500 lb, however a higher market noted. Feeder steers 500 lb to 700 lb sold 2.00 to 6.00 lower. Steers 700 lb to 800 lb sold unevenly steady. Feeder steers 800 lb to 900 lb sold 1.00 higher. Feeder heifers 300 lb to 600 lb sold unevenly steady. Feeder heifers 600 lb to 775 lb sold 5.00 lower. Feeder heifers 775 lb to 900 lb sold 1.00 higher. Demand was good. Breaker cows sold 4.00 lower. Boner and lean cows sold steady. Slaughter bull sold 10.00 lower.
