Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last Tuesday on a calf and yearling special; steer calves under 500 lbs 4.00-10.00 higher instances 17.00-20.00 on reputation quality offerings, steers over 550 lbs under pressure instances 4.00-7.00 lower. Yearlings steers over 800 lbs steady instances 3.00-4.00 higher. Heifer calves under 600 lbs 5.00-9.00 higher instances 13.00-20.00 higher, over 600 lbs steady instances 4.00-8.00 higher. Yearling heifers over 700 lbs steady to 1.00 higher instances 10.00 higher, 850 lb yearlings under pressure with 4.00-5.00 lower and heifers over 900 lbs instances 10.00-11.00 higher. Demand good with good buyer attendance and participation.
