Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Knoxville - Compared to last week, feeder heifers and feeder steers weighing up to 600 lbs. 7.00 higher overall, with feeder steers weighing over 600 lbs. sharply higher, and feeder bulls 5.00 to 6.00 lower overall. Regarding slaughter classes- breaker and lean cows 4.00 to 7.00 higher overall, with boning cows 1.00 higher, and bulls 7.00 higher. Pulaski - Compared to two weeks ago, Slaughter Cows 5.00 higher, Slaughter Bulls and Feeders insufficient receipts to establish a trend. Fayetteville - Compared to this same sale last week, feeder steers 10.00 to 20.00 lower, heifers 4.00 to 12.00 higher, bulls under 550lbs 9.00 to 20.00 lower and over 550lbs 9.00 to 20.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady to 3.00 lower with lean cows 2.00 higher.
