Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Dickson - Compared to last week, Feeder steers mostly steady to sharply higher; Feeder heifers mostly steady to 5.00 higher; Feeder bulls mostly steady to sharply higher; Slaughter cows mostly steady to 7.00 higher; Slaughter bulls mostly steady to 4.00 lower. McMinnville - This week a special yearling steer sale was held in conjunction with the regular sale therefore no comparisons are available, but a higher undertone was noted on feeder steers as they made up the bulk of the offerings. However, demand was mostly good to very good with buyers showing the best interest in the 8 load lots that were offered. Slaughter breaker/boner cows steady with lean cows and slaughter bulls down 8.00. Unionville - Compared to last week, Feeder Steers/Bulls steady to 5.00 higher; Feeder Heifers 3.00-7.00 lower; Slaughter Cows mostly steady; Slaughter Bulls steady to 3.00 higher.
