Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Knoxville - Compared to last week, on a lighter test, feeder heifers weighing up to 500 lbs. 1.00 higher overall, with those weighing over 500 lbs. 4.00 to 5.00 higher. No comparisons available for feeder bulls due to limited comparable receipts. Also, no comparisons available for non-preconditioned feeder steers due to limited comparable receipts, however, a higher undertone was noted. Regarding slaughter classes- breaker and boning cows mostly steady overall, with lean cows 4.00 lower, and bulls 4.00 to 6.00 lower. Pulaski - Compared to the same sale last week, Slaughter cows mostly steady. Slaughter bulls not well established. Feeders not well established. Quality poor to average. Demand moderate. Columbia - Cattle were gathered at Columbia and Cookeville on Monday December 5 th and sold on Tuesday December 6 th at Columbia. Cattle were on strict vaccination program and weaned for 60 days. Graded and grouped and weighted on the ground.
