Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

LaFayette - Compared to the last sale, Feeder Steers 2.00-6.00 higher; Feeder Bulls steady to 3.00 higher; Feeder Heifers steady to 4.00 higher. Offerings also included 187 head sold on video in three load lots. The video sale report can be viewed at the following link: https://mymarketnews.ams.usda.gov/viewReport/3467 Sweetwater - Compared to last week, slaughter cows gauging 3.00 to 5.00 higher overall with slaughter bulls 1.00 higher. No comparisons available for feeder classes due to limited comparable receipts. Savannah - Compared to the same sale last week, Slaughter cows and bulls steady. Steer and bulls under 400 lbs steady, over 400 lbs 1.00 to 5.00 higher. Heifers under 400 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 lower, over 400 lbs steady to 2.00 higher. Quality average to fancy. Demand strong.
