Compared to last week: Steers 400-450 lbs. 9.00 higher, Steers 450-500 lbs. 20.00 higher, Steers 500-600 lbs. 10.00 to 15.00 higher, Steers 600-625 lbs. 16.00 higher. Heifers 400-450 lbs. 20.00 higher, Heifers 450-500 lbs. 10.00 higher, Heifers 500-600 lbs. 14.00 to 17.00 higher, Heifers over 600 lbs. not enough for a test. The buyer demand was very good from start to finish. The market activity was very active. The CME feeder cattle index closed November 20 at 254.27 up 2.00 from November 14. The state off North Dakota received much needed moisture, more moisture to the northeast of Dickinson, ND. Next USDA reported sale at Stockmen's will be December,5.

Reading this report

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
