Compared to the last trended sale two weeks ago, feeder steers under 650 lbs 6.00-12.00 higher, over 650 lbs 3.00-5.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 575 lbs fully 15.00-20.00 higher, over 575 lbs 6.00-12.00 higher. Slaughter cows 4.00-6.00 lower. Demand very good. Supply moderate. Top quality feeder offering of mostly weaned calves and yearlings this week as several top producers brought cattle to town. Also included in the bulk steer prices are two drafts (22 hd 557 lbs @315.00 and 28 hd 619 lbs @ 292.00) of non-weaned, double vaccinated, high quality reputation calves.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
