Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
Where do these numbers come from?
From the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock Market News —
federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the
official USDA document at the top of the page.

Compared to the sale two weeks ago: Choice Slaughter steers 2.00-3.00 lower, with instances 6.00-7.00 lower in cattle over 1500 lbs. No implant steers bringing a 2.00 plus premium today. Choice slaughter heifers 3.00 lower. Dairy steers steady with light numbers today. Many load lots, along with plenty of smaller strings in the offering. Demand good, both in the arena and online. Slaughter cows: Breaker and Boner cows steady to 1.00 lower. Lean cows steady to 2.00 lower. Not enough bulls last week for comparison. Slaughter lambs: Limited numbers for light lambs. No comparison. Lambs 120 lbs 8.00-9.00 higher, 130 lbs 12.00 higher, 140-150 lbs 16.00 higher. Slaughter ewes: Ewes over 150 lbs 17.00 higher, with instances 25.00-30.00 higher. Ewes over 200 lbs 10.00-14.00 higher with light numbers this week.
