Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to the sale last week: Choice slaughter steers steady to 1.00 higher. Choice slaughter heifers steady to 1.00 lower, with light numbers this week. Several load lots of mostly steers, along with many smaller packages in the offering today. Demand good, both in the arena and online. Slaughter cows: Limited number of breaker cows. No comparison. Boner and Lean cows steady to 1.00 higher. Bulls remain steady. Slaughter lambs: Limited number of light lambs both weeks. Lambs 80 lbs 2.00 lower. Lambs 100 lbs 13.00 higher, 110-130 lbs 6.00-9.00 lower, 140 lbs 9.00-10.00 lower, 150 lbs 10.00-15.00 lower. Slaughter ewes 6.00-7.00 lower.
