Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the

Compared to last week: Choice slaughter steers 3.00-4.00 higher, with steers over 1500 lbs 6.00 higher. Choice slaughter heifers 2.00-3.00 higher. Not enough dairy steers for comparison. Most of the sale consisted of smaller strings, along with two load lots of 1400 lb steers. Good demand. Slaughter cows: Breaker cows 1.00 higher. Not enough Boner or Lean cows for comparison. Bulls steady. Slaughter lambs: Lambs 60 lbs 21.00 lower, 70 lbs 10.00-13.00 lower, 80 lbs 37.00 lower, 90 lbs 10.00-18.00 lower. Lambs 100 lbs 3.00 lower, 110-130 lbs steady to 2.00 higher, 140 lbs 1.00 lower. Slaughter ewes steady to 3.00 higher.
