Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week: Slaughter steers Choice 2-3 2.00 to 4.00 lower, Choice 3-4 steady to 1.00 higher. Slaughter Heifers 1.00 lower, Holsteins 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Demand for this nice offering of cattle was moderate. Most cattle were hauled in overnight making the weighing conditions good for the buyer. Estimated dressed cost 223.00 - 230.00. CME Live Cattle closed high, corn also jumped higher. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls 5.00 to 7.00 higher. Traditional slaughter weight lambs 15.00 to 20.00 lower, over 150 lbs 5.00 to 9.00 lower. Demand for this nice offering was moderate. Slaughter ewes 15.00 to 20.00 lower.
