Total receipts 4,000 3,577 1,285
Feeder cattle 4,000 3,577 1,285

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 600 lbs sold with higher undertones, over 600 lbs mostly steady except 950-1000 lbs 10.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 850 lbs mostly steady, over 850 lbs 7.00 to 10.00 higher. Very good demand for this large offering of high quality, very eye appealing steers and heifers. Many long strings of yearlings, including one consignment of 550 head. Many full loads and multiple load lots. Flesh condition light to moderate plus. As the CME Live and Feeder Cattle futures had another positive day, cattle feeders were feeling better about the coming months in the market, which resulted in a very active auction. Outgoing fed cattle have lost some money, but there is still plenty of interest in feeding cattle. Cash fed cattle topped at 238.00 last week, but many were bought at 235.00

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Where do these numbers come from?

From the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service's Livestock Market News — federal reporters at the sale. We publish each report in full and link the official USDA document at the top of the page.
