Compared to last week: Limited price comparisons as few steers and heifer with similar weights to last sale. Feeder steers 600 lbs - 650 lbs steady to 2.00 lower, 700 lbs - 750 lbs, 900 lbs - 950 lbs steady to 1.00 higher, other weights not well compared. Feeder heifers 700 lbs - 800 lbs steady to 3.00 lower, other weights not well compared. Nice string of yearlings, many long strings of light to moderate fleshed steers and heifers including loads and multiple load lots offered. Good demand today with many farmers in the field, harvesting with the weather being beautiful. More interest in the yearlings than the spring calves today. Calf prices variable on hide of the calf, vaccinations received and load lots versus packages. Slaughter cows Breaker and Boner 5.00 to 7.00 lower, Lean steady to 1.00 lower. Bulls 4.00 to 5.00 lower.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
