Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of
the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is
muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle
scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at
$450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per
cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the
head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a
$/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last sale: Feeder steers under 450 lbs sold 12.00 to 22.00 lower on a very thin test. Steers weighing 450 to 600 lbs sold 6.00 to 16.00 higher. All other weight ranges were too thinly tested for a comparison. Feeder heifers under 400 lbs sold sharply lower on a very thin test. Heifers weighing 600 to 800 lbs sold 1.00 to 7.50 higher. All other weight ranges were too thinly tested for an accurate comparison. Average dress slaughter cows sold steady to 5.50 higher and average dress slaughter bulls sold 1.50 lower. The next available report will occur as receipts warrant.
