***Close*** Compared to two weeks ago, which was a wean/vac special, feeder steers and heifers sold 4.00-8.00 higher. Steer calves under 700 lbs. sold 12.00-18.00 higher. Heifer calves under 700 lbs. sold 6.00-12.00 higher. Demand was very good on a moderate supply. Seven weight steers topped the 300.00/cwt. mark with ten head weighing 708 lbs. bringing 301.00/cwt. This was the first regular Tuesday feeder sale of 2025 with last week being cancelled due to road conditions. The 5 Area Weighted Average for negotiated fat cattle set a record high last week closing at 202.50/cwt., 3.57 higher than the record set the previous week.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
