Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

Compared to last week flyweight steers sold 10.00 to 14.00 higher, flat 5 wt steers sold 5.00 lower with 550 lbs steers and weaned 6 weight calves trading 5.00 to 10.00 higher. Then the market slipped backwards on the heavier bawlers trading 3.00 to 5.00 lower. Yearlings over 700 lbs sold 2.00 to 5.00 higher. On the heifer market most weights of calves less than 600 lbs sold 7.00 to 9.00 higher and yearling heifers sold 4.00 to 7.00 higher. Instances 2.00 lower on some 600 to 650 weight heifers. Ample rain showers in the Southern Plains have brought buyers to this sale putting packages of calves together for winter grazing situations. Demand was moderate to good from start to finish with active internet buying.
