Reading this report
What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?
USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.
What is $/cwt?
Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.
Why are some prices per head?
Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.

First reported sale in recent weeks so an accurate price trend can not be established. Good to very good demand for today's offering featuring a hand full of loads and many packages, including fall calves. Lots of light calves with the potential to go to grass and these type of cattle continue to be very sought after as grass time is only a few weeks away. Quality varied quite a bit today, especially on these light cattle. Flesh condition mostly moderate to moderate plus overall. A few consignments of replacement heifers available but not all going back to the country. An active market with quite a few buyers and some farmer feeders attending the sale. Watch local listings for the next feeder cattle sale.
