Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves weighing 450-650 lbs sold 8.00-12.00 higher with spots 15.00 higher on the 4 weight steers, 650-750 lbs sold steady with a pot load of 885 lb steers off the same consignment from two weeks ago trading 2.00 lower. Feeder heifers weighing 400-500 lbs sold 5.00-10.00 higher, 500-600 lb sold 5.00-7.00 higher and 600-700 lbs sold 3.00-5.00 higher over 700 lbs traded with a higher undertone. Demand was very good on a moderate supply of feeders with a lot of top quality steers and heifer calves in the offering weighing 400-650 lbs and a nice quality offering of 600-750 lb heifers all selling on a very active market. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm.

What does "Medium and Large 1" mean?

USDA feeder grades describe frame size and muscle thickness, not quality of the individual animal. "Medium and Large" is the frame score; the number is muscle (1 = heaviest muscled). "Medium and Large 1–2" pens mix both muscle scores — common across the Southeast.

What is $/cwt?

Dollars per hundredweight — per 100 lb of animal. A 500-lb calf at $450/cwt brings 5 × $450 = $2,250. Lighter cattle usually bring more per cwt but less per head.

Why are some prices per head?

Bred cows, cow-calf pairs, and some replacement classes sell by the head, not by weight. We show those exactly as USDA reports them — a $/head figure is never converted into $/cwt on this site.
